6 Reasons Why March Is The Time To Start Exercising

March Is The Time To Start Exercising

Now that we are well into March, we can start looking forward to the spring. March is the perfect time of year to take advantage of the longer days and to renew your exercise programme. As new years resolutions have probably gone out of the window by now, it is the perfect time to start. The Trainers have written why March is the time to start exercising.

1. Summer is only 94 days away

With summer just over 3 months away, now is a great time to start exercising on a regular basis. This will give you plenty of time to look and feel good for your summer holiday. Feeling confident on the beach and spending time with your children without worrying what you look like will be priceless. You too can achieve this. With a regular exercise programme, and healthy eating it can be achieved. So what’s stopping you?

2. Lose those extra Christmas pounds before easter

Are you still holding on to those extra lbs from Christmas? Public holidays in England are all about family and indulgence. However, it is important to remember your health. If you weight is slowly creeping on as you get older, this can put huge strain on your body. You may not be the same weight as you were as a teenager, but you can be strong, fit and healthy no matter how old you get.

3. Brighter, longer days – exercise outside

Exercising outside, can actually be more beneficial than gym workouts. According to a study by the University of California, people who were more active outdoors participated in at least 30 minutes more moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per week, than those who only exercised in doors. So take advantage of the longer days and head outside.

4. Exercising outside has been proven to lower your blood pressure

According to Nature.com a recent study estimated that nearly 10% of people who had high blood pressure could control their levels by spending at least 30 minutes outside each week. This is due to the heart related benefits of getting fresh air and lowering stress levels. Exercising outside will help to lower the hormone cortisol, which elevates blood pressure.

5. Your mental health will improve

It’s no secret that exericse has huge beneifits on your mood. When exericsing outside you can enhance these feelings as nature is often a major distraction of the stress of daily life. When training outdoors, you’ll be modulating your stress hormone, increasing your endorphins and increasing the about of serotoinin in your body which will also brighten your mood.

6. You’ll be saving money

Exercising outdoors is not only convenient, but it is also free, Therefore, there is no need to pay an expensive, long term commitment gym membership, that you’ll probably not use that often. The BBC has reported that “walking more ‘would save thousnads’ of lives in the UK”. This headline has been prompted by the “Walking Works” report (PDF, 3.4M. It states that a large proportion of the population is not meeting the physical activity guidelines and that if more people did so, this could potentially save 37,000 lives a year in England.  All you need is the right pair of shoes, and you can exericse anywhere at anytime.
