7 Tips For Hosting A Healthy Dinner Party

healthy dinner party

With the party season just around the corner, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can become quite difficult at this time of year. To help, The Trainers have put together a list of 7 tips for hosting a healthy dinner party.

1. Healthy Nibbles

Instead of placing unhealthy crisps in bowls, opt for a healthier option. Did you know ⅓ of a tube of Pringles contains 300 kcals and 18 grams of fat! Olives, nuts, salted edamame are a much better option as they will not spoil anyone’s appetite. We also recommend serving raw vegetables with a homemade hummus dip for people to tuck into.

2. Choose your alcohol wisely

Yes, alcohol is allowed in a healthy lifestyle! Remember… everything in moderation. According to the Business Insider, these are the 6 healthiest alcoholic drinks. 1. Tequila, 2. Red Wine, 3. Rum, 4. Whiskey, 5. Rose and 6. Champagne. Avoid high sugar mixers and fruit juices.

3. Hydration is key

We like to have a jug of fruit infused water on the table. This provides a healthier alternative to alcohol and helps you and your guests to stay hydrated throughout the evening. This is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

4. Serve plenty of greens

Providing a few dishes in the middle of the table allows guests to help themselves. By opting for a side of fresh veg or a delicious salad will ensure your guests leave feeling satisfied with tasty, healthy food.

5. Homemade sauces & dressings

Making your own sauces and dressings is a simple way of keeping the calorie count down. It also makes a huge difference to the nutritional value of the dish – shop brought sauces and dressings usually contain large amounts of processed sugar and unhealthy fats.

6. Add lean protein

Creating a balanced meal will ensure your guests feel satisfied! Cook good quality meat, fresh fish or opt for pulses and beans for vegetarians such as lentils and chickpeas. Also, stick to healthier methods of cooking, for example, grill, steam or bake rather than frying.

7. Serve a healthier dessert

Desserts are often packed full of sugar and unsaturated fats. 1 cup of ice cream contains around 270 calories. To burn this off, you would have to walk at a medium pace of 3-5mph for 55 minutes. Opt for a platter of beautifully presented fruit to help your guests reach their recommended daily intake. Or bake our delicious Healthy Cheese Cake or serve our Healthy Chocolate Truffles.

Creating a healthy lifestyle is not about putting restrictions in place! I hope these 7 tips have shown you how to have a healthy dinner party whilst enjoying delicious food with great company.
